NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited Minutes of Meeting October 7, 2014
The October meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by Vice President Ron Leoni. There were seven attendees.
The Secretary’s Report for June and September was given by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.
The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Evan Williams. There is $3822.80 in our treasury with $150 slated for TIC. The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.
Evan reported our chapter purchased insurance from TU National for protection of our volunteers while working on various projects.
Evan reported there was a Meet and Greet for new members held by the State Council. The event was held on Saturday, September 27th at the Matthies Grove Picnic area on the Farmington River. Jim Fedorich and Evan represented our Chapter and there were 3 new members in attendance.
Due to Jim Fedorich being away, and the light attendance, a motion was made and carried to delay the election of officers until the November meeting.
A suggestion was made from the floor to come up with a schedule of programs for our monthly meetings to help boost attendance. The feeling was the meetings have turned primarily into business meetings, and this is not generating enough interest on the part of the membership. It was decided to challenge each member in attendance to come up with three program topics for monthly meetings to help stimulate interest and bring the ideas to the next meeting. Ideas do not have to cost money – they could be discussions of personal interest, ie fishing trips or experiences, favorite flies, hot spots to fish, etc.
Bob Hart was coming up with an operating budget for 2014-2015. He asked the attendees for thoughts for expenditures we may incur over the next year.
Dick Heffernon gave us an update on TIC. We lost one school due to a key teacher leaving the school. This leaves us with nine schools in our TIC program. Dick said he was working with the teachers to make sure their equipment was in good working order, and he would be picking up the eggs in November.
The meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.
Our November meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, 2014 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club. The program for the evening is TBD.
