NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Minutes of Meeting

November 5, 2013

The November meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by Acting President Jim Fedorich.  There were ten attendees.

The Secretary’s report for October was read by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s Report for May was read by Jim Fedorich.  There is $3136.50 in the treasury, with $200 earmarked for TIC.

Jim announced the Farmington Valley Chapter of TU will be holding its annual “Angling Gear Tag Sale” on Wednesday, November 6th at the Farmington Community Center from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.  Our chapter has reserved two tables for the event.

Ed Machowski from the CT DEEP will be attending training at UMASS so we can collect similar data for the “Inventorying Culverts in Connecticut” program.  The training will begin the early part of December.

Our TU Chapter will be looking for a boulder project for the Naugatuck River to help scrub the river and help the fish survive the summer heat.  Jim got a hold of the old boulder project number for the Army Corps to help facilitate the new permit.  The plan is to raise money and organize the event to implement next fall.

Dick Heffernon reported our chapter now has 9 schools in the TIC program.  Eggs for this session are to be delivered to the schools on November 13th.  Dick was asking the chapter to cover two invoices for the program – one for a backup chiller and controller for $777 and a second for food supplies for $45.  A motion was made and passed to cover these two invoices.  There are some fundraisers planned to help defray the costs.  This will bring our accrual for TIC in the treasury to $150.

Jim discussed out upcoming fundraising banquet to be held on February 8th, 2014.  The main raffle will consist of 5 prizes as gift certificated to Upcountry Sports, Housatonic River Outfitters, Autumn Gun Works and Newbury Archery.  Tickets will be $5 each with only 300 tickets printed.  Ron Leoni, Banquet Chairman, discussed some menu options and said he would be meeting with the Elks chef later in the week to finalize the menu.

It was announced Shawn Britton, who was just elected 1st Vice President, resigned the position for personal reasons.

Jim reported he was trying to set up a meeting with the Sharon Autobahn Society to discuss the possibility of trapping beavers on Carse Brook to prevent damming which causes warm water to flow into the Housatonic River during the summer months.

The meeting ended at 8:40 PM.

Our December meeting will be our Annual Christmas Party to be held on Tuesday, December 3rd at 7:30 PM downstairs at the Torrington Elks Club.  There will be free food and a cash bar, and is open to all TU members and friends.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Hart
