NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Minutes of Meeting

February 3, 2015

The February meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by President Jim Fedorich.  There were twelve attendees.

The Secretary’s Report for January was given by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Bill Richie.  There is $5094.45 in our treasury with $150 slated for TIC.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Jim reported the banquet was going to be held on Saturday, February 21st at the Torrington Elks Club.   A rifle and crossbow have already been purchased for the card game raffle.  Evan Williams is contacting Orvis to try to get a rod and reel outfit.  Jim has contacted L.L. Bean to see if we might get any prize materials from them.  There will be a meeting at Jim’s house in the next week for the Board to finalize prizes and work assignments for the banquet.

Joe Cieslowski donated a 2 day/1 night trip for up to 3 anglers to the Limestone Trout Club in East Canaan with guide service.

Tracey Brown is spearheading two projects that will use money from the GE Housatonic River settlement.  The first is at the base of Furnace Brook where the plan is to create a log jam that will help protect fish from predators during the summer thermal refuge period.  The second project involves removing a dam on the Macedonia Brook to help fish migration.  She is enlisting an engineer from New York to work on these projects.

Tracey will also look at a third project to remove a beaver dam from Carse Brook.

Jim mentioned the possibility of setting up one or more fishing trips for our Club, in addition to our monthly meetings.  Ron Leoni will chair the committee with Joe Cieslowski to look at potential trips or outings in the Spring and/or Fall.

Jim mentioned at the last meeting of CAC (Conservation Advisory Commission) that Governor Malloy was considering shutting down one of the State’s fishing hatcheries, probably Kensington.  Jim will send out contact information for us to email campaign against the proposal.

The meeting adjourned at 8:35 PM.

Our March meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd , 2015 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club.  We are trying to arrange a talk by Tim Berry, CT DEEP, to update us on the State’s trout stocking program.  Remember to support our Annual Game Dinner Banquet on February 21st  – this is our only fundraiser of the year.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Hart
