February 4, 2014

The February meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by Acting President Jim Fedorich.  There were nine attendees.

The Secretary’s Report for January was given by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Evan Williams.  There is $2719.15 in our treasury with $150 slated for TIC.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Jim updated us on our upcoming Annual Sportsmen’s Dinner Fundraiser to be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Torrington Elks Club.  Approximately 110 dinner tickets have been sold so far.  Seating will be at tables set up for eight people to help with the flow of food.

Raffle tickets are available now for $5.00/ticket with only 300 tickets printed.  There are 5 prizes in the form of gift certificates: 1st - $250 Upcountry Sports, 2nd - $200 Housatonic River Outfitters, 3rd – $150 Newbury Archery, 4th – $150 Autumn Gun Works, 5th – $100 Housatonic River Outfitters.

The major card game prizes will be a muzzle loader with sling, scope and case from Autumn Gun works; a crossbow from Newbury Archery; and a rod/reel/line outfit donated by Orvis.  Jim and Evan picked up the bucket raffle prizes.

There will be a Board meeting at Jim’s house on Thursday the 6th to go over the final plans and organize the prizes.

Jim passed around a sign up for training on the Culvert Inventorying Program.  Jim will present a few potential dates for the training to Ed Machowski of the CT DEEP and get back to us once a final date is established.

The program for the evening was an update by Tracy Brown, TU National, on the Salmon Kill Creek Restoration Project.  She said of the three phases of the project – assessment, implementation and monitoring – the goal is to have the assessment completed by the end of March.  She has met with all the landowners and internally she decided to assess the full 6 mile stretch.  From the assessment, they came up with 21 work areas for habitat improvement.  She can already see the $600k grant will not be enough so she is hoping to get some financial help from the landowners.

The meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.

Our March meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club.  The program for the evening will be an update by Tim Barry, CT  DEEP,  on the annual trout stocking plan.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Hart
