NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Minutes of Meeting

February 7, 2017

The February meeting was called to order at 7:50 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by President Ken Ludwig.  There were eight attendees.

The Secretary’s Report for January was read by Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Bill Richie.  There is $5,223.66 in our treasury.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Ken mentioned Ron Leoni volunteered to head a committee to organize some volunteers to start up a local fly tying and fly casting classes for groups, such as the Healing Waters Project and various kids’ groups.  Part of what they need to look at and report on is an inventory of what supplies and equipment we have access to, and generate a list of materials we will need to obtain.

Dick Heffernon gave an update on the last State Council meeting.  He said Bill Hewitt, the Director of Natural Resources spoke to the group.  The fisheries budget was cut $800k  affecting programs and staff.  The Trout Stamp looks like it will not take effect until at least 2018.  For income, 29% comes from licenses, 17% from Federal Wildlife, and 27% from the General Fund.  Approximately 150K fisherman are 65 years old or older and will be out of the license revenue stream.  The breakdown of hatchery spending is $897k for Burlington, $1.9M for Quinnabog and $800k for Kensington.

We then spent some time de-briefing the banquet – what went well and what could be improved upon.

All thought the food was good this year.

The buffalo meatballs were not all the way cooked.

Appetizers were good.

Can we get caribou on the menu next year.

Need two people at the ticket table.

Have master ticket list for ticket table, including table numbers.

Brand new raffle prizes ONLY!

The program tonight was a DVD provided by Ken on A gude to Fly Fishing, “Muskie and Pike on a Fly”.

The meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 at the Torrington Elks Club at 7:30 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Hart
