Minutes of Meeting

February 5, 2013

The February meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by President Jim Fedorich.  There were thirteen attendees.

The Secretary’s report for January was read by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s report was read by Treasurer Evan Williams.  There is currently $4716.91 in the treasury, of which $250 is slated for TIC.  Evan reported the income for the annual fundraising banquet was $8600, with expenses of $5807.27, yielding a net income for the event of $2792.73.

President Jim Fedorich asked for feedback on this year’s banquet.  Some of the comments were:  food portions were too small, food quality was good, service was too slow, prices were raised, event took too long/was too slow.

Jim reported Todd Kurht (Shawn Britton’s friend) designs websites and may be able to update our website for a reasonable charge.  A motion was made and accepted for Jim to discuss possible work and charges to update the website and proceed, if reasonable.

The Annual Naugatuck River Cleanup will be held on Saturday, June 1st at the Torrington Senior Center from 9:00 AM to noon.

Jim told Darlene Ostrosky that he would send Pauline Krofssik and her the contact information of Bob Gregorski so they could get an article on “Women in TU” in the Naugatuck River website.

“Casting for Recovery” will be held June 14th-16th at the Wisdom House.  There will be a fishing session on the 16th from 9:30 AM – noon on the Naugatuck River.  We will see if the DEEP can do a mini stocking for the event.

It was announced at the last State Council Meeting there was $18K available for projects to upgrade the Housatonic River.  A committee was being formed to identify what those projects may be.

The State Council also stated there was $500 per chapter available towards sending local delegates to the Regional Meeting in the Catskills this year.  Anyone who might be interested should contact Jim Fedorich.

The program for this evening was a slide presentation by Tracy Brown, Northeastern Restoration Coordinator for TU National.  Tracy spoke on “Salmon River Creek enhancement and Restoration Project”.  She is in charge of $625K from the GE settlement.  Also speaking were Charlotte Rand, Project Coordinator, University of Connecticut Department of  Natural Resources, and Beckett Harney, student at Housatonic Valley High School.

The meeting ended at 8:50 PM.

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club in Torrington, CT.  The program for the evening will be Tim Barry, CT DEEP Biologist, with an update of the 2013 trout stocking program.
