NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Minutes of Meeting

March 1, 2016

The March meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by President Jim Fedorich.  There were sixteen attendees.

The Secretary’s Report for February was read by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Bill Richie.  There is $3910.72 in our treasury with $150 slated for TIC.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Bob Hart gave a summary of the expenses and income of our annual fundraising banquet that was held on February 6th.

                        Income            $7628.00

                        Expenses         $5658.28

                        Profit               $1969.72 (26%)          $296.92 more than 2015

Jim asked the membership how we could increase the money we could make by selling more raffle tickets, different prizes, etc.  There were no ideas at this time but people would think about it.  We also asked what people thought was good about the evening and what could use some changing.  People thought the smelts could have been smaller and there could have been more than one fillet of the smoked salmon.

Jim discussed an opportunity to hook up with a guide service on the salmon River in Pulaski.  He said the price would be $120 per night for two people and the guide service would be $375 for the boat and 8 hours of time with the guide, primarily fishing for steelhead.  There is a restaurant on site and the dates were March 28th thru April 1st.  Anyone interested should get in touch with Jim ASAP.

We held a quick fly swap tonight.

The program for the evening was a talk by Tim Barry of the Connecticut DEEP on the status of the trout stocking program.  Tim also gave us and update on several other things going on with the DEEP:

Fisheries Agency has put out two proposals based on demographics

1.      Fishery fee (Trout Stamp)

2.      Do away with the free licenses to people over 65 years of age

New 5 year strategic plan

New statewide Trout Management Plan

Trout stocking has started but the draught has affected the Quinnibog hatchery

Culvert Documentation Program has been rejuvenated

The meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.

Our April meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 5th, 2016 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club.  The program for the evening is TBD.

Respectfully submitted,
