NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Minutes of Meeting

March 10, 2015

The March meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by President Jim Fedorich.  There were eleven attendees.

The Secretary’s Report for February was given by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Bill Richie.  There is $4812.92 in our treasury with $150 slated for TIC.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Bob Hart gave a summary of the results of our Annual Fundraising Banquet.  There were 126 paid tickets for the evening.  The revenues for the night were $8,881.50 and the expenses were $7,208.70 yielding a profit of $1,672.80.  This was good but was over $1000 less than last year’s profits.  Most of the reduction was due to increased costs of main raffle prizes.  Next year we should consider going back to previous prizes that were shared costs, at least for first place.

Jim Fedorich mentioned some upcoming dates to be aware of:

·        June 6th - Naugatuck River Cleanup

·        June 6th - Women Gone Wild at the Harwinton Rod and Gun Club

·        Late June – Casting for Recovery

·        February 6th, 2016 – Annual Game Dinner Banquet

Scott Richie passed out copies of a letter from Chris Marino of the Northwest Connecticut Sports Council.  This letter spells out a proposal by the Governor to cut the state pheasant program and to confiscate the funds collected last year from the sportsmen that were to fund this year’s stocking.  Chris is advocating a letter and call campaign to oppose the cut and, if the cut is made, to refund the monies to the sportsmen.  Chris also mentions in his letter the State’s plan to close one of the state fishing hatcheries, most likely Kensington.

Jim talked about setting up one or more fishing trips for our Club, in addition to our monthly meetings.  Ron Leoni will chair the committee with Joe Cieslowski to look at potential trips or outings in the Spring and/or Fall.

Jim announced our chapter received a check for $400 from the Friends of the Naugatuck River to help offset food and drink for our spring and fall cleanups of the Naugatuck River.

The program for this evening was a presentation by Tim Berry, Connecticut DEEP in which he talked about the changes that were being made to the State’s Trout Management Plan.

The meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM.

Our April meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 7th , 2015 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club.  Pat Peet will give us a demonstration on furled leaders.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Hart
