Minutes of Meeting

April 2, 2013

 

The April meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by President Jim Fedorich.  There were eighteen attendees.

 

The Secretary’s report for March was read by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read. 

 

The Treasurer’s report was read by Treasurer Evan Williams.  There is currently $4504.97 in the treasury, of which $250 is slated for TIC.  The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as read.

 

A motion was made by Evan Williams to donate $200 to the Kid’s Fishing Derby to be held at the Ripley Livingston Foundation on May 4th.  This motion was accepted and approved.  Evan said they could use some volunteers from our chapter to help with the derby.

 

A motion was made by Jim Fedorich to support Eric Long and the Kid’s Fishing Derby to be held in Riverton on Opening Day, April 20th.  The donation of $200 was approved by the membership.

 

Jim Fedorich reported the Regional TU meeting is to be held July 19th, 20th, and 21st at Windham Mountain in the Catskills.  TU will help fund this meeting by $125 per person.  So far, Darlene Ostrosky, Evan Williams, Shawn Britton and Rob Redman have signed up.  Anyone else who may be interested in attending, please contact Jim before the State TU meeting April 24th.

 

The Annual Naugatuck River Cleanup will be held in conjunction with the Torrington Conservation Commission on Saturday, June 1st at the Sullivan Senior Center from 9:00 AM to noon.

 

Mike Beauchene, CT DEEP, is organizing a Free Kid’s Fishing Day on May 11th, 2013 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Kent Falls.  He is requesting assistance from our chapter regarding fly casting demonstrations and fly tying demonstrations.  Anyone interested should contact Jim Fedorich.

 

Jim reported the Candlewood Valley Chapter of TU will be conducting a “Stream Reading Class” by Tom Rosenbauer on April 13th from 9 – 2:30 PM.  Anyone interested in the class may contact Jim for further information.
 

There will be an Annual Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday April 20th from 9:00 – Noon.  This is being organized by Kim Barbieri from the Torrington Conservation Commission.  People will be meeting at the Center Cemetery Association at 9:00 AM.

 

Ron Leoni brought up Harwinton was looking to purchase a piece of land along the Naugatuck River.  This would help support a Greenway through that section of river.  Joan Kirchner is leading an effort to establish that greenway and as soon as plans get finalized, she will be asking for our chapter’s support to help with the organization and work.

 

Our program for the evening was a fly tying demonstration by Shawn Britton and Bill Johnson, Professional Fly Tyers.  Shawn is also a renowned  Outdoor Writer and Artist.  Shawn and Bill were able to give helpful instruction to novice as well as advanced tyers,

 

The meeting ended at 9:00 PM.

 

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club in Torrington, CT.  The speaker for the evening will be Ed Machowski, Connecticut DEEP giving a talk on the “Culvert Crossing Program”.
