Minutes of Meeting

May 6, 2014

 

The May meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by Acting President Jim Fedorich.  There were fourteen attendees.

 

The Secretary’s Report for April was given by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

 

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Jim Fedorich.  There is $4669.18 in our treasury with $150 slated for TIC.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

 

Jim announced our chapter received a $500 grant from the Friends of the Naugatuck River.  This is to be split up $250 for the annual Naugatuck River cleanup and $250 for the Torrington Conservation Commission project.  Evan Williams sent out a thank you.

 

Jim discussed the training on the Culvert Inventorying Program.  We are still waiting for Ed Machowski of the CT DEEP to get back to us with dates once the weather gets a little warmer.

 

This year’s “Women Gone Wild” day will be held at the Harwinton Fish and Game Club on June 1st.  We are looking for volunteers for casting and fly tying demonstrations.  We will be holding these demonstrations from 9:00 AM til Noon.

 

The 8th Annual Naugatuck River Cleanup will be held on Saturday, June 7th, 2014 from 9 AM to noon, meeting at the Sullivan Senior Center, 88 East Albert Street in Torrington.  The cleanup is being sponsored jointly by our club, the City of Torrington and the Torrington Conservation Commission.   

 

The Annual TU Regional Meeting will be held at Stowe, Vermont on June 6-8.  The State Council is appropriating money to help defray the costs of the event which is $125 per person.  Anyone interested should contact Jim Fedorich.

 

The “Casting for Recovery” will be held June 20-22.  We will need volunteers for fly casting on the 22nd from 10:00 AM til Noon at Doc Schlildgen’s.

 

 

Jim Fedorich announced the joint picnic with the Farmington Valley Chapter of TU will be held on Saturday, September 13th at the Matthies Grove picnic area on the Farmington River.  Bill Case is checking on the pavilion availability.

 

Dick Heffernon reported two schools in the TIC program had already released their fish.

 

Jim Fedorich announced the fish by-pass on the Tinque Dam in Ansonia is scheduled for completion by the end of May.  This is the last barrier to American Shad, Striped Bass and eels on the Naugatuck River from the Sound all the way up to the Thomaston Dam.

 

The Citizen’s Advisory Council (CAC) is looking to salt in Reservoir Bass into lakes to help resident bass change their feeding habits to feed during the day.

 

The program for the evening was a fly tying demonstration by Bill Johnson and Dave Cooper.

 

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM.

 

Our June meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club.  The program for the evening is TBD.
