NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Minutes of Meeting

June 6, 2017

The June meeting was called to order at 7:45 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by President Ken Ludwig.  There were eleven attendees.

The Secretary’s Report for May was read by Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Bill Richie.  There is $3490.69 in our treasury.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Dick Hefernon reported he has not received any feedback from Pomperaug High School yet.  He held a fly casting event for the school, with primarily juniors and seniors in attendance.  Dick mentioned the teacher wanted to set up a fishing club starting in the fall.

Dick also reported the St. Anthony’s School released fingerling trout from their TIC program.  He is expecting the other schools to follow suit shortly.

President Ken Ludwig downloaded information for youth fishing from Trout Unlimited National.  He, Dick Hefernon and Joe Cieslowski will meet on Tuesday, June 13th to discuss taking that information to set up an agenda for our youth fishing program.

Joe Cieslowski reported on the Blackberry River fishing trip.  There were a dozen people in attendance with eight of them fishing.  Scott Richie got the honors catching six trout.  We enjoyed pizza afterwards and everyone had a good time.

Ken reported on the Housatonic River gathering with the Mianus Chapter.  The waters were too high so people ended up fishing the feeder streams.  Again, there was a cookout and people enjoyed themselves.

Scott Richie reported Jeff Yates from the Mianus Chapter said there was going to be a cookout at the Whittimore Picnic Grove on June 17th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Cost is $10 per head.  George Daniels will be running some nymphing classes at this event.

Ken asked the membership if they were in favor of a book lending library where members could take out fishing books to read.  He thought we could include titles and descriptions on our website.

Ken reported the Naugatuck/Pomperaug Chapter was going to hold an outing on June 24th at the Housatonic River Meadows from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Our chapter will again be holding our annual picnic in conjunction with the Farmington Valley Chapter at the Whittimore Pavilion on the Farmington River on September 9th.  More details to come.

The date for the Annual Naugatuck River cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, September 16th.

The membership discussed printing up business cards for the members to give out to various people they meet out on the streams to help drum up members for our Club.

There was a fly swap this evening.  There was no program for this evening

The meeting adjourned at 8:50 PM.

This was our last regular monthly meeting for the season.  Please check our emails and website to stay informed of our next meetings, as well as the picnic in September.  Until then, tight lines to all.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Hart
