NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Minutes of Meeting

September 1, 2015

The September meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by President Jim Fedorich.  There were thirteen attendees.  Jim explained Bill Case was sick and therefore, our scheduled Annual picnic was cancelled and he called this meeting in its place.

The Secretary’s Report for Jun was given by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Jim Fedorich.  There is $4337.64 in our treasury with $150 slated for TIC.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Jim mentioned this is the meeting we ask for nominations for officers for the 2015-2016 term.  There were no nominations from the floor but Jim asked people to think of some candidates so we could hold elections at our October meeting.

We discussed some possible fishing trips for this Fall.  Some suggestions were:  the Farmington at Sal’s place (a TU member) next to the woodworking shop, the Housatonic at Ken Ludwig’s place on the west side above the Push Em Up pool, and the Salmon River in Pulaski around Halloween.  Ron Leoni and Joe Cieslowski will look at these (and other) options.

Jim mentioned the Torrington Conservation Commission will be sponsoring a World Cleanup Event in Torrington on September 19, 2015.  Everyone will meet at the Torrington Senior Center and our Club will be asked to cook food for the volunteers.  Jim also mentioned our chapter received $200 from the Friends of the Naugatuck River to help pay for the food.

Dick Hefernon reported on TIC.  He said we lost one of our schools in Kent but still have 8 schools in the program.

Pat Peet mentioned the fly fishing show in Danbury will be held on October 31st and November 1st this year.  The show is held at the hotel off exit 4 on interstate 84.

Jim brought up a suggestion to check with some local wineries to see if they would be willing to let us sell some cases of their wine with our Trout Unlimited logo on the bottles.  The thought is we could receive some, if not all, of the profits from the sales.  A question was brought up regarding the legality of it, as well as an endorsement from TU National.  Evan Williams was to look in to these questions.

Ken Ludwig suggested having our Club do something like a fly casting event, to help our veterans’ groups, ie Healing Waters.  He was going to look in to getting more details.

We held a quick fly swap and raffle tonight.

Our October meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 6th , 2015 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Hart
