NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Minutes of Meeting

January 4, 2011

The January meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by Evan Williams.  Nine people were in attendance.

The Secretary’s Report for December was read by Secretary Bob Hart and was accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Jim Fedorich. There is currently $1026.38 in our checkbook with a lot of the banquet prizes already paid for.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Evan updated us on the Trout in the Classroom (TIC) project.  Our chapter will be supporting two schools, Rumsey Hall and Washington Montessouri, which we are taking over from the Candlewood Chapter.  Evan and Rich Heffernon will be the chapter representatives.  They brought eggs to the two schools so they could get started.

Our upcoming Annual Fundraising Banquet will be a Game Dinner held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Torrington Elks Lodge.  Hors d’oeuvres will be served from 6:00 – 7:00 PM with the dinner starting at 7:00 PM.  There will be door prizes, silent auctions, and bucket raffles.  This is our major fundraiser that supports our projects and programs throughout the year.

The menu for the evening sounds delicious with the food served family style at the tables.  The menu includes fish chowder, salmon tar tar, Buffalo meatballs, rabbit cacciatore and wild boar loin, as well as all the extras.  Tickets are $35 a head and both banquet and raffle tickets may be purchased from any of the chapter officers.  Seating will be limited, so get your tickets early.

Dr. Bill Vincent offered to hold free boat inspections performed by the United States Coast Guard Auxillary.  We will need to set up a location, date (preferably early April) and publicity.  This inspection will also include canoes and kayaks.  This inspection is to help boaters with the safety of their crafts and will not be used to penalize anyone.  People are to be reminded to have their fire extinguishers, floatation devices and registration on board.

The presentation for tonight was a slide show and discussion by Dr. Bill Vincent, Clinical Microbiologist, on “Salmonella Infections”.  As always, Dr. Bill gave us a very informative presentation, loaded with facts, prevention and treatment of this disease.

The February monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 1st, 2011 at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club.  The program is open at this point, but we will definitely be reviewing final preparations for our banquet.  And don’t forget to reserve February 12th for our banquet.  See you at both.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Hart
