NW CT Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Minutes of Meeting

November 2, 2010

The November meeting was opened at 7:30 PM at the Torrington Elks Club by President Evan Williams.  Thirteen people were in attendance.

The Secretary’s report for October was read by Secretary Bob Hart and accepted as read.

The Treasurer’s report was read by Jim Fedorich and was accepted as read.  There is currently $1395.98 in our treasury.  Jim mentioned we had already purchases three card game raffle prizes for our banquet.

Jim reported he had completed and submitted the Annual Financial Report for our chapter to TU National.

Evan reported there was going to be an “Arts of the Angler Show” on Saturday and Sunday November 6th and 7th at the Ethan Allen Inn in Danbury.  Anyone interested looking for more information may contact Jeff Yates.

Evan stated at the last TU State Council meeting, that the council was supporting a “Wild and Scenic” designation on the Lower Farmington River.  The next State Council Meeting will be held on January 26th, 2011.

A reminder that all first year members pay $17 for membership and the local chapters get $15 of that.  This is a great deal, supports our chapter and is incentive to help get new members into the club.

The Farmington River Chapter of TU will hold their tag sale on Wednesday, November 3rd at the Farmington Community/Senior Center, 319 New Britain Avenue, in Unionville.  Doors open at 5:00 PM for exhibitors and 6:00 PM for buyers.

Dave Paavola passed out chapter business cards with the names and phone numbers of the officers and chairmen on the reverse side.  Anyone interested in a card can obtain one from any of the officers.

Our January meeting will be held on the 4th upstairs at the Elks.  This will be another presentation by our very own Dr. Bill Vincent talking about Salmonella.  Dr Bill’s previous presentations were exceptional and very informative.  You will not want to miss this one!

Our annual fundraiser banquet will be held on February 12th at the Elks.  The menu will again be a game dinner.  Please plan on coming to support the club.  Tickets will be available soon.

The program for this evening was a fly tying class and demonstration by club member, Shawn Brittan, professional guide and fly tyer.  Shawn showed us several different techniques and led a group of tyers in tying a caddis nymph and Isonychia nymph. The class was very informative and well received.  This is something everyone agreed we should do again in the future.

The meeting adjourned at 9:30 PM.

Remember the December monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 7th, 2010 at 7:30 PM downstairs at the Torrington Elks Club lounge.  This is our annual Christmas party with free food and drink.  All are welcome and we hope to see you there.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Hart
